We really enjoyed not traveling this Christmas, our first time in 8 years!
We had a grand time at home and family came to us! Our greatest gift was a new house. We can't wait to see what 2014 will hold!

The Alabama Theatre

Yesterday we went to Birmingham to see a holiday cartoon matinee at the Alabama Theatre. Our Murph (Lee's Dad) was able to join us for Full Moon BBQ and the show. It was festive and the girls loved seeing their favorites Rudolph, Frosty and Charlie Brown on the big screen!

Mommy dates

This past Friday, I got to have a special time with each girl. First, I helped with Sawyer's class Christmas party and then had a lunch date with Sullivan at Chappy's after her noon dismissal.
Sometimes it is hard for this to work out, but well worth it.

The move!

As many of you may know, we have recently moved to a permanent home in Montgomery. This will certainly be a crazy Christmas time to remember! The girls are taking to it well and despite the chaos of boxes and shuffling about, are enjoying playing with random items (see above the crib mattress and old car seat) and are also grateful for fun events with family, like Disney Live! with Honey and The Nutcracker with Gigi. We will get settled soon, but for now we are in pieces...grateful, but in pieces.

Happy birthday, Dads!

It just so happens that both our Dads have early December birthdays, so this past week we celebrated Murph on the 3rd and my Dad, "Waylo", on the 9th. It was very nice to finally be in town to see them and attend all festive events for them. Above is our family celebrating my Dad.

Last Sunday afternoon, Martha Blount and her extended family graciously hosted us at their family farm,Virala, in Fitzpatrick, AL, for horseback riding.  Martha's parents, Glen and Martha Sanders, were dear friends of our family for decades and I have fond memories of hunting and riding out at their place while growing up. In 1996, Glen and Martha even took us to Mexico for a ten-day experience, which was fantastic. Martha was a Spanish teacher as well, so I had a special connection with her.
On Sunday, all ten of us McRae-Foshee-Murphy group attended and the four kids really had a great time seeing the horses, dogs and beautiful land.  It was certainly no small thing to have us all out there!
Thank you, Martha and Susannah! And thank you, Dad, for wanting all of us to learn to ride and appreciate horses.

Visit to Greenville,SC

Above and below are my sweet friend Danielle's precious babies. I had not seen them in 18mos and had not met baby John Martin, below. It was awesome to spend a Saturday morning with them!


Lee and I were able to drive back to Greenville, SC, for the weekend to celebrate his 10th reunion at Furman and also to visit with our dear residency friends. Lee's group of guys from college is fantastic and just first class. We always have a blast when we get together. Although the two-night stay was too brief, we got to see many people and attend lots of fun events: dinner at Larkin's with the Furman guys and wives, Furman's homecoming floats and tailgates, visiting with the Adams and meeting baby John Martin, Barleys with the Adams, coffee with dear girlfriends Diane, Sara and Courtney, as well as being a part of the residency group's night out after the OITE exam...and much more. It was bittersweet for me to return to Greenville as it was a 5yr period of my life that I did not want to end. It was such a golden experience for me to have met so many wonderful girls and form lifelong friendships. I love the town and our little home on Grove Road...I shed a few tears as we drove by.  Thank you, Mama and Dad, for keeping the girls!

Below, trick or treating with our friend Paul and family in our neighborhood.

We had a very nice, low key Halloween this year! I helped with both classroom parties and they went over smoothly and I think both Kindergarten and 2yr olds had a blast with their games and special party foods like donut hole eyeballs and mummy hotdogs. Later, we got to trick or treat with our friends, the Johnsons, which was wonderful and easy. Sullivan sprinted from house to house and fully embraced the activity of collecting goodies. Sawyer did her best to keep up with the big kids! We had a great day!
