About Me

This is my "snapshot scrapbook" of our daily doings for my children and family. I hope to preserve the "everyday" for my children and for us so that we can always read it and remember.

Mommy and Me

Now that Sullivan is such a big girl in her 4K class that meets 5 days a week, Sawyer and I will have 3 mornings together for some "Mommy and me" time. I try hard to carve out time one-on-one with each child, and that can be hard. This time will help me get that with Sawyer, as Sullivan and I have special time together each evening after Sawyer goes to sleep.  Our first morning together, it was a little overcast, but we played at the park, searched for bugs and went shoe shopping. Check out Sawyer's darling belly button and her shoes of choice at the store...

Bugs!

Belly button!

-Mommy, hold you!

Mile high strappy stilettos! Yikes.

Clean sheets

The apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree for Sullivan and me and I am convicted of this almost on a daily basis. Case in point: her bed. It takes me around three days, count them: 1,2,3, to warn her of the fact that I will be changing her sheets and washing her blankets.  It takes her that amount of time to be relatively "okay" with the whole experience of relinquishing control over her intricate "nursery" of swaddled tucked and protected babes and animals (see above). And as a person who likes her things "just so", I can very much relate. But I also relate to the desire of a clean home, so I persist in my efforts to clean her bed linens. So, today was day 2 of the "change warning" and but I really wanted to get it done, even though she was quite unwilling, stating that "some people don't wash!".

Quietly this afternoon, I snuck in to remove it all and as I was doing so Sullivan ran in and fell to her knees in full "Scarlett O'Hara" swoon and wept.  I kept on removing and some how, some way, as I was trying to not react and be calm during her display, I managed to punch myself in the nose as I took off the corner of her bedsheet!? Is this EVEN humanly possible??? I thought not, but now I have proved it possible!  All this in the name of fresh sheets! Sheesh!

And finally, above is her full revision of the nursery after the clean stuff went on...it only took her 30 tearful minutes to regain the correct positions with swaddling, tucking and protecting.

What we are up to...

We are trying to stay busy around here, as the girls thrive off of  little adventures and activities. The girls enjoy a Mother's Morning Out twice a week at our fabulous new church, Saint Richard's, while I teach my online Spanish courses (their pre-school begins later this month...). We attend a fun pre-school story and craft time at our local library, hit the gym for mommy's workout class a few times each week, and also jump over for an afternoon hour or two at our Children's Museum, which is literally across the road from us.  We are carving out a nice routine and schedule of fun events and I am really enjoying Jackson.
As you can imagine, we are perhaps enjoying the town more than Lee at present, as  he is working hard! He began his fellowship in Sports Medicine August 1 and hit the ground running, literally! Moving among four different hospitals all over town and trekking into parts unknown for team physicals, while taking call and planning research projects, has kept he very busy and away.  He does feel strongly that he is getting a great experience and we trust in that. I am excited for him and we are doing our best to love him when we get our hands on him!

In the meantime, here are some snapshots of our recent outings and doings and here is a list of things I don't want to forget and need to include in a loveletter to my girls...

-Sawyer double-fisting handfuls of fries as we leave a restaurant, smiling in delight.
-Sullivan singing at the top of her lungs her made-up songs in the car, at meal times, in shops, in restaurants...
-Sawyer insisting on "eskimo kisses" while I sing her lullabies.
-Sullivan's precise and intricate art projects that she spends up to an hour creating.
-Sawyer calling her milk "nuck", although she can fully say "milk" and "leche".
-The girls referring to one another as "sissy", very lovingly.
-Sullivan's sheer excitement as  go on an adventure just before her bedtime: twilight searches for bats or bugs, collecting the trash and recycling bins from our long driveway, running in our new cul-de-sac...

Ahh...
childhood really is calling.
Lord, help me always answer it with my girls!

Watching me on the tv screen at the Children's Musuem...
Dancing for the tv screen at the Museum...
Sitting at the library with our new friend, Sarah Katherine.

38

Yesterday, in 1974, Jeanie Rousseau and Duncan McRae were married in New Orleans.

Happy 38th anniversary, Mama and Dad!

Thank you for showing me what a happy and loving marriage looks like.

A Grape Setback

As a mom of two girls, I try to work on "lady-like" manners every so often, you know...sitting with legs together, keeping a dress or skirt down, table manners, etc. Well, yesterday I suffered a bit of a setback in this quest as I overheard Lee and the girls at the lunchtable. Sawyer and Lee had just begun rolling grapes back and forth on the table and Sullivan wanted in on the action and grabbed a grape or two of her own. And then this happened:

Lee: Hey Sullivan, put your mouth on the edge of the table and I'll roll one in!
Sullivan: Yea!!!
Lee: Wait, watch out for Sawyer's foot!

And then it all broke loose with Sullivan drooling on the table's edge, trying to gobble up grapes, Sawyer's feet on the table (and in Sullivan's mouth as well?) and squished and lost grapes on the floor.
I had to laugh!

Manners will begin another day. Ha!
