First Fish

There is a lake nearby that has become a favorite spot for Lee to take the girls. Yesterday he whisked them off for a while and before I knew it, these photos came my way! It would please us both so much if the girls took to fishing with their Daddy...of course he had all the gear ready in his truck for just a moment like this one. Sullivan was so proud! And check out the lens-less glasses she sports.

The day that the bird came

Bird lands on Lee!
 



After the farmer's market on Saturday morning, we came home and ate lunch outside. Just as I sat up to carry our tray of plates into the house, a dark bird swooped down aiming for my head! I almost tripped and dropped my load of plates but then he landed on a chair. We soon determined by its inability to fly, cawing and opening of its mouth that it was a baby bird. Before we knew it, it fluttered to Lee and landed on his chest. If Lee had not been with us I would have whisked the girls into the house and the story would end here.
But, Lee is more brave than I and he took the bird and cupped it into his hands and the bird stayed on his hand or leg for a long while. The opening of the mouth activity kept on and so we tried to give the starving creature little tiny bits of bread (which we later learned is NOT what you are supposed to do!?) The poor creature did not even know how to peck at food and so we literally had to drop the food into its mouth.
I have never in my life been so close to a wild baby bird like this.

After lots of "oohing and ahhing", we scared the neighborhood cat away and attempted to return the little bird to the trees in our yard. Just as Lee placed him in a branch, he swooped down again and landed on Sawyer's head!? She screamed and shook, I grabbed her and got the bird away and she kept saying, "birdy so hurt me, birdy so hurt me"! It was awful.
At that point, we all went inside, but y'all that bird did not leave.
 I think he thought Lee was its mother.

He was still there at 10:30p last night and only this morning had gone. We hope that he is still with us somewhere out there.

Farmer's Market

The downtown Farmer's market is up and running again. We enjoyed the live music, beautiful produce, friendly booth owners and even found some delicious local milk and tomatoes to take home. The colossal cabbage and handmade birdhouses tempted us as well...a neat place!

More fun at the museum

We will miss our Children's Museum of Jackson! It has been a great activity for us as it is close by, manageable to navigate and offers an affordable membership. They have daily free art projects, that Sullivan loves. Here are a few shots from this morning.

Summer love

Exploring

Here are a few recent pics of the girls from the last week or two. Sawyer's personality is really emerging...she loves music, playing "cook" and following her big sister's lead. She wants to be in the mix and is happy-go-lucky most of the time. Sullivan is busy with her own projects, whether that is crafting a cat costume to wear to school for the next day, building a "fire pit" outside, picking flowers, dancing and climbing all over outside and in.

Sawyer found this toy violin at the Cracker Barrell and was quite interested...we'll see where this goes! She seems so interested in music.

 Sawyer packed her grocery cart, put on her cowboy hat and exclaimed, "I goin Chicka Lay!".

A few favorites
