About Me

My photo
This is my "snapshot scrapbook" of our daily doings for my children and family. I hope to preserve the "everyday" for my children and for us so that we can always read it and remember.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Lunch with Sawyer...and all her animals. Look closely; the animals have been given food.

Animals have naptime.

No pants + mommy's shoes = fancy

As Sullivan has begun Kindergarten, I have more one-on-one time with Sawyer. She is often so quiet that I don't even notice she is with me. Really. She goes with the flow. Other times she wants to sit and play something together or just roam the house in silence. She is an old soul and I think she enjoys the time by herself. Today at lunch she wanted to include about 18 stuffed animals at the table, above. What was funny is that these are her sister's animals that she is normally not allowed to view or touch. She insisted on feeding them and then carefully put them to sleep later on the couch.  Very sweet. Don't grow up, Sawyer.

Sullivan's first day of Kindergarten

The girls in the gym before Convocation.

Sullivan completes a drawing at her new desk.

Sullivan and cousin Josephine. Below, Sullivan poses with her new teacher, Mrs. Nelson.

This past Monday was Sullivan's first day of Kindergarten at The Montgomery Academy. We had a great morning together discovering her new teacher and new classroom.
She has Mrs. Nelson with 13 others and we have already made some sweet friends in her class.
Here are a few highlights of my photos. She is thrilled to go each morning and has taken to this transition very easily. I am thrilled for her and did not shed a tear. This is a happy time and she is ready. Go Sullivan!

The McWane Center

Step into the Bubble Maker! Below, Sull poses with Christy in the grocery center.
On Friday morning I drove the girls to Birmingham to see my dear childhood friend, Christy, and explore the McWane Science Center. Anyone who has a chance to get to this center should go! I enjoyed it as much as the girls and we could have stayed the entire day. We only had about 2hrs but we had fun every moment playing in sand, water, bubbles, getting lost in jungle gyms and tubes, watching jellyfish, sting rays, sharks, catfish and bass. We were sad to leave. Next, we enjoyed lunch at a favorite of mine, O'Carr's in Homewood, with Christy and another sweet friend, Ashley.

Thank you for such a fun day, Ms. Christy!

Little Miss Manners

Sullivan finished her Manners class with a very fancy evening, complete with a presentation and five course dinner. My parents were able to join us (Lee and Sawyer stayed at home as it was a late and lengthy affair) and we all enjoyed sitting at the table, sampling shrimp, soup, salad, baked chicken and chocolate mousse. She tried it all and didn't like most, but simply trying it all, using the utensils and drinking from crystal was still quite a big deal. To begin, the children were even announced and presented to us one by one, very debutant in style. I can see how many would think this a ridiculous thing to send a five year-old to, but ah! I love the south and its southern ways.
And I think it is never too early to learn to be polite.

My name is...

Sullivan and her cousin Josephine are attending a Manners class this week for children aged 5-12.
As I dropped her off this morning the woman that teaches it told me that she just had to tell me what happened yesterday.
Each child was asked to stand up, state their name, where they go to school and their grade. She said that when asked, Sullivan stood confidently and said:

Sullivan Murphy
USA.
2nd grade.

Her cousin quickly corrected her and told everyone what her school and grade was...
Bless her!
After thinking it over, the poor child in her short life has lived in 3 cities, in 3 different homes and has attended 7 different school programs.
No wonder it is a little confusing...

Burger King Beauty Queens

They've been wearing these all over town today. BK seems to have the best indoor play-place in town, and as the temperature is sweltering this may be a look I need to embrace...

Sillies

Sullivan was quite proud of herself after she took this lovely self-portrait on my phone the other day. Perhaps its time to put a password on my device...

Sawyer has taken to wearing costumes these days. At first I was trying to discourage this, but at what other time in life is it ok to wear costumes whenever you want???
Go for it, Sawyer. You are only a kid once, right?
