About Me

My photo
This is my "snapshot scrapbook" of our daily doings for my children and family. I hope to preserve the "everyday" for my children and for us so that we can always read it and remember.

Shhh!

"They're sleepin!"

This is Sullivan's new response to any inanimate object(s) that she'd rather not deal with...
When it's time to do her hair, she calls out that the barrett is "sleepin' ", or it's the shoes, the sweater, even her dinner! Ha!

Sawyer is 5mos!

Can you believe it? Today 2/8/2011 marks 5 whole months!

She is already out of newborn-hood, which I am sad about! She is moving more and more and is enthralled by her big sister, Sullivan! (Although this post is about Sawyer, the above photo of Sullivan and Elmo, which Sullivan requested to have shot, was too cute to not include.)

Sawyer is doing well, but is a tiny little thing. Here are some stats:

- She weighs just under 12lbs (6th%) and is 24 inches long.

-She is nursing 2-3 times and takes 2-3 bottles each day.

-Wakes up at 7:45a, naps at 9:30a, naps at 1p, goes to bed at 6:30p, dreamfeeds at 10:30p.

-She loves people and smiles at anyone who will keep her gaze. She is amazingly tranquil and happy. She rolls over from tummy to belly, is trying to sit up and pull her torso upwards, grabs and brings toys to mouth, and tracks objects and people well. She has just started to enjoy her baths, splashing and flailing about in delight!

-She rarely cries and mainly "squeaks" and makes high-pitched noises if she is hungry or tired.

-She is becoming more of a playmate and less of a victim to big Sis. Whew!

We love our Sawyer!

New camera, new phrases

This Christmas Lee's parents generously gave us a few electronics and I found myself with a new, very nice Canon Powershot camera. I couldn't be more thrilled as it has transformed my ability to capture images of the girls. Here are a few of my first shots, as the camera was on backorder and I just got it in a week or so ago...

Also, more to remember from the tiny mouth of Sullivan:

-Here is the bushbiter! (She means to say, "Scuba Diver"!)

-Sitting at the breakfast table, she announces, "I need my suitcase!" (What she means here is the Spanish word for "sugar", or azucar (ah-zoo-car) or in her mind, "suitcase"!)

-"Put this in the hammer!" (This time she means to put her milk in fridge, or the nevera in Spanish...in her words, "hammer")
And finally, a simple:

-"Good job, Mommy girl!"

Yep, sometimes she calls me "Mommygirl" and often tells, "good job"! She is big into gender these days, wanting to articulate that "Daddy is buoy! Mommy is a gurrrl! Sully's a gurrl, Mommy?"

So funny...

Lip gloss and Jesus

Before I forget these hilarious things Sullivan has said today, I've got to write them down! Here goes:

Walking across the street from where I parked to go to mass this morning, I am carrying my purse, a huge diaper bag, Sullivan on my right hip and Sawyer in her carrier in my left hand...

Sullivan: So heavy, Mommy! Heavy!
Me: Yes, it is so heavy for Mommy, but we love Jesus and so we are going to mass.
Sullivan: Where Jesus go?
Me: Well... (her questions are getting tougher!) Jesus is with us all the time...
Sullivan: No, Mommy. Jesus is at home.

Suddenly, my load became so much lighter!

This afternoon...

Sullivan states, "I need my lipgloss, Mommy!"
(as she reaches into the drawer in kitchen where I keep lipbalm, puts it on and then goes to see herself in a mirror ...hmm, I am totally convicted here. Maybe I use lip products a bit excessively! Ah!)

Tonight, watching her evening show:
Sullivan whispers, " I like yer outfit, Mommy." (Fingers the zipper on my sweatshirt...)
"What's name, Mommy?"
I say, " Zipper. That's my zipper. "
Sullivan adamantly responds, "No, outfit. It's outfit."

Elmo's Time Out

Rice cereal for Sawyer! Yum!
Mommy and Sully make cookies while snowed in!

Sullivan out trekking the snow with Daddy.

I went to get Sullivan out of her room from her quiet time today (sadly she stopped napping regularly many months ago...) and I knew to be prepared for whatever lay ahead of me on the other side of the door. Usually, she has managed to get into what I have recently tried to organize in her room...books, diapers, linens, toys...and although I make her clean it all up each time and give her a stiff "talkin' to" about not taking every SINGLE thing out of bins and not making huge messes, alas, in the name of 90 minutes of calm I let her stay in there and do really whatever...So, today I took a deep breath and opened the door and what ensued just made me laugh!

-I enter the perfectly nap-worthy space, darkened and "sound-machined" to a nice whisper of rain. No nap has been had. Books and blankets are everywhere. Sullivan is in the corner trying to organize the books on a shelf. Elmo, Bah Bah the lamb, Lion and other stuffed animals are on the bed. Sullivan addresses me as I enter:

-Sull: Elmo make mess!

-me: Oh, Elmo made a mess?

-Sull: Yea! Elmo in Time Out! Elmo hit Bah Bah (her lamb).

-me: Oh no! Elmo has hit your Bah Bah!?

-Sull: Yes, Lion too. Elmo in Time Out.

-me: Oh, thank you for putting Elmo in Time Out! We do not hit or make messes with all the books!

-Sull: Welcome, Mommy. Your welcome.

Hilarious!

Other "bloggable" moments to remember over the last week and snowed-in days:

-Sullivan has figured out how to divide bowel moments into several episodes in order to be rewarded with M&Ms multiple times. She's a sly one, she is!

-Sawyer is rolling over from tummy to back and eating rice cereal. Wasn't she just born? Ah! She is growing up!

-Last Saturday, while Lee was out of town, I somehow locked Sawyer in our bedroom during her nap and had to figure out how to breakdown the doorknob while she was crying and while having Sullivan berate me with, "What's zat, Mommy? Mommy, What's zat?" Sigh...

-However, despite being snowed in for three whole days, I have really, truly enjoyed the forced pause; it has renewed my gratefulness for the two precious little lives from heaven that have been entrusted to my care.

Trip to AL and a first joke

3 generations of Murphy men: Lee, his dad, his brother Tyler, and his grandfather "Papa"
I sneak a kiss with Sullivan!

Christmas morning photoshoot in Christmas pjs!

Mama shows off her white wine as we prep for Sawyer's Dec.23 "Sip n See", which was a fabulous affair!

Lee's mom, "Honey", holds Sawyer during the "Sip n See"

We had a wonderful Christmas break in Montgomery with both of our families; unfortunately, I didn't take enough pictures! Here are a few of them, above.
Also, Sullivan told us her first joke the other day, which we didn't get, but she thought was hilarious!
Sull: Mommy, where green car go?
Mommy: I don't know.
Sull: To the Chick-kah-lay! (proceeds to giggle...)
So funny!

Minivan.

Yes. We caved. Couldn't be more excited.
