Tia Lauren

Another big perk being home is more time with my dear sister, Lauren. We haven't lived in the same place since 1996! I am loving getting to do lunch, dinner, shopping, carpool, etc with her and Sawyer is totally smitten with her as well. We love you, Tia Lauren!

Sibling sort out

Tonight at the dinner table, mid sibling fuss fest,
a provoked Sawyer announced to Sullivan that she could not come to her birthday party.
Sullivan quipped right back with,
"Sawyer, we are not like friends.
We are sisters.
That means we are never going away from each other, so I will be at the party".

I laughed out loud.

Room with a view...and a laugh

The Huntingdon College football field is literally our backyard at our cottage rental. Our chimney is at the bottom of this shot. There has been lots of recent activity on the field that we can hear and see, which is pretty fun. The girls love it, especially the band practice (which mercifully ends at 7:30p). Lee is taking care of the team and is in fact now the Medical Director for the school's athletics. I have been hearing around town that at Lee's physicals and talks many a female student is showing up to see him...I can't blame them.  It makes me smile.

Last night the band was having some sort of Parent's night or dress rehearsal and there was quite a production. We four went out to see what was happening and Sawyer ran to the fence to get a closer look. She came back a few minutes later and shouted, "Baseball is starting! I think it is starting!"
Too funny.  One day they will match up the correct sport to its appropriate field and ball.

As Sullivan has begun Kindergarten, I have more one-on-one time with Sawyer. She is often so quiet that I don't even notice she is with me. Really. She goes with the flow. Other times she wants to sit and play something together or just roam the house in silence. She is an old soul and I think she enjoys the time by herself. Today at lunch she wanted to include about 18 stuffed animals at the table, above. What was funny is that these are her sister's animals that she is normally not allowed to view or touch. She insisted on feeding them and then carefully put them to sleep later on the couch.  Very sweet. Don't grow up, Sawyer.

This past Monday was Sullivan's first day of Kindergarten at The Montgomery Academy. We had a great morning together discovering her new teacher and new classroom.
She has Mrs. Nelson with 13 others and we have already made some sweet friends in her class.
Here are a few highlights of my photos. She is thrilled to go each morning and has taken to this transition very easily. I am thrilled for her and did not shed a tear. This is a happy time and she is ready. Go Sullivan!

On Friday morning I drove the girls to Birmingham to see my dear childhood friend, Christy, and explore the McWane Science Center. Anyone who has a chance to get to this center should go! I enjoyed it as much as the girls and we could have stayed the entire day. We only had about 2hrs but we had fun every moment playing in sand, water, bubbles, getting lost in jungle gyms and tubes, watching jellyfish, sting rays, sharks, catfish and bass. We were sad to leave. Next, we enjoyed lunch at a favorite of mine, O'Carr's in Homewood, with Christy and another sweet friend, Ashley.

Little Miss Manners

Sullivan finished her Manners class with a very fancy evening, complete with a presentation and five course dinner. My parents were able to join us (Lee and Sawyer stayed at home as it was a late and lengthy affair) and we all enjoyed sitting at the table, sampling shrimp, soup, salad, baked chicken and chocolate mousse. She tried it all and didn't like most, but simply trying it all, using the utensils and drinking from crystal was still quite a big deal. To begin, the children were even announced and presented to us one by one, very debutant in style. I can see how many would think this a ridiculous thing to send a five year-old to, but ah! I love the south and its southern ways. And I think it is never too early to learn to be polite.
