As Alabamians, we knew little of Sullivan's Island, SC, which is right next to the Isle of Palms. As we named our firstborn "Sullivan" people would always ask if we were engaged at Sullivan's Island or had some special connection to the place...Of course, we didn't even know it existed for a while! Then, came our second child and we chose to name her "Sawyer". Shortly after her birth, Mick Maughon, our friend from IOP, informed us that the The Ben Sawyer Bridge (above) connects to Sullivan's Island. What are the chances of such a coincindence!?

This year we went to The Isle of Palms (IOP) with my parents during Holy Week and Easter weekend. We stayed in an incredible home within the Wild Dunes area of IOP and I cannot get over how fantastic this vacation was!

From our gracious accomodations that had beach access, parks and pools just yards away, to the delicious local cuisine and seafood, from the 25 minute drive to Charleston, proximity to Mount Pleasant shopping and Shem Creek restaurants, this visit was truly one of the very best beach experiences that I have ever had! And it even was cold and rainy at times!? This is very much a family area! Case in point, the IOP Rec Center put on a fabulous free Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning. Below are a few pics from my phone of the girls with the Easter Bunny and my mom.
My parents really made the trip special in that they bent over backwards to allow me and Lee to have some time together. They are so gracious to do this! But they have always demonstrated to me that at the heart of a family is a marriage. And that marriage must be prioritized and cared for...So, from our big datenight to Charleston (sunset drinks at Vendue, wandering the shopping, then dinner at Hank's Seafood...amazing!) to kicking us out at the girl's bedtime for walks on the beach and to go out for ice cream, to letting Lee fish and me shop, they made it a real vacation for us. More pics from my camera to come!
I hope that you and your family had a wonderful weekend!
